Once again, we’re happy to receive new recognition — this time, our award-winning cheeses at the 2020 Great Taste Awards total three.
This prestigious international competition held in London (United Kingdom) has awarded three of our cheeses: two Manchego cheeses and one artisan cheese.
The 3 cheeses awarded at the 2020 Great Taste Awards
This recognition went to two cured cheeses and one reserva, meaning our Great Taste Award-winning cheeses in 2020 are all aged cheeses with a long maturation period.
These honors were awarded to the following artisan cheeses:
- 2-star recognition for Carpuela Manchego Reserva Cheese.
2 stars for Carpuela Cured Manchego Cheese- 1 star for Gómez Moreno Cured Cheese with Natural Rind.
Great Taste is the most prestigious food and drink competition at an international level.Great Taste es el concurso más prestigioso de alimentos y bebidas a nivel internacional.
The competition is organized by The Guild of Fine Food, the UK’s leading gourmet products association, where 500 experts judged more than 12,000 products submitted this year — among which we had the honor of being awarded.
It is undoubtedly great news for Quesos Gómez Moreno.
Two Manchego cheeses awarded two stars
The competition awards products with one, two, or three stars according to their quality.
Those that receive two or three stars will have the opportunity to be showcased at the Speciality & Fine Food 2020 fair to be held in London.
The two cheeses awarded at the 2020 Great Taste Awards are part of the Carpuela brand, a range of Manchego cheeses offered by Quesos Gómez Moreno.
Both are crafted by our master cheesemakers in an artisanal way, as we have been doing for over a century.

Carpuela Manchego Reserva Cheese

The judges described Carpuela Manchego Reserva Cheese with comments such as:
“An incredibly tasty Manchego cheese with a sublime hint of nuts.
We loved the level of acidity and the touch of salt.
The texture is very pleasant and crumbles easily due to its long aging. The lingering aftertaste is long, persistent, and very enjoyable.” ”
Or “A cheese with a magnificent appearance, wonderful color, and a very attractive rind
An aroma with fresh herbal and lactic notes. The texture is firm but crumbles.
The flavor has notes of nuts, acidity, salinity, and a persistent finish. It is a cheese with a clean taste and a lasting aftertaste. Truly delicious. ”

Carpuela Cured Manchego Cheese.
And the Carpuela Cured Manchego Cheese has been described by the judges as:
“It is an ivory-yellow cheese with a strong aroma and sweet notes.
t has a unique texture, crumbles slightly, and in the mouth is truly pleasant, with nutty and slightly sweet notes that nicely balance the saltiness of the first bite.
Truly a magnificently crafted cheese.”
Or “It has a mild aroma with the personality of a true Manchego cheese.
It offers an initial almost citrus note that evolves into an intense, slightly salty, and wonderful flavor that is immensely enjoyable.
The sheep’s milk flavor is not too strong, which lets the rest of the cheese’s complex nuances shine.
For a cured cheese, it has great flavor intensity.
The texture, with some granules in the paste, is creamy, enhances the flavor, and pairs very well with the product. The sweet and nutty notes balance the intensity of flavor beautifully. “.

Products awarded one star receive this recognition for their great flavor.
Another of our cheeses awarded at the 2020 Great Taste Awards was the Gómez Moreno Cured Cheese with Natural Rind.
Gómez Moreno Cured Cheese with Natural Rind
This cheese is rich in nuances and, as we always say, in it you’ll find the perfect balance of flavors — something confirmed by the competition judges with their comments:
“Made with sheep’s milk from our own herd and following a centuries-old tradition, this cheese has an intense nutty flavor.
The paste has a glossy texture that melts away with an intense taste and hints of hops and salt, ending with a malty finish. Well balanced and truly different — a great novelty to add to a cheese board.”
“A cheese with a cured appearance, a dark waxy rind stamped with pleita (braided esparto grass), with a glossy, satin look.
Immensely penetrating aroma with notes of livestock, forage, hops, and a pronounced nutty scent ranging from ripe almonds to lightly toasted hazelnuts.
It’s a hard cheese with an open structure, appearing to be slightly drying, with deep cracks forming in the rind.
With a coarse, waxy, and grainy texture, this is a brilliant, fully developed cheese with a firm bite and an immense, deep aroma of ripe apricot.
The fruity aroma and barley intensity blend on the palate into a rich, creamy texture, culminating in a complex nutty finish.”
