Tell me what cheese you eat, and I’ll tell you who you are…
In this article, we present our own version of “you are what you eat,” as it becomes increasingly common to see how new healthy lifestyle movements like the Realfooder trend are here to stay and reshape our way of life.
As people have become more aware of the food they consume, the energy these foods provide, etc., and given the continuous rise in processed foods, we wanted to explore this area further.
“You are what you eat”
All of this is nothing new—we can say that years ago there were already public figures advocating for healthier lifestyles. It was in 1804 when the German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach dared to state that “You are what you eat.” His theory was based on the ethical and political importance of the food we consume, as it becomes blood, which in turn becomes heart and brain, and therefore material for thoughts, influencing our decision-making.
What type of cheese do you eat?
What kind of cheese do you eat? According to Nick Black, a psychologist specialized in marketing, all the decisions we make are influenced by our way of thinking and seeing life—cheese is no exception. The cheese we choose to enjoy says more about us than we might think.
The cheese we choose to enjoy is a very personal decision, as it is a food with “life.” Cheese contains lactic acid bacteria, all of which are microorganisms responsible for the lactic fermentation that transforms milk into cheese.
Well then, Black conducted a study based on two variables: on one hand, the personality of the individual, and on the other, the social group—age, habits, social status, etc.—to which the observed individuals belonged. Once the groups were established, he asked participants about their cheese preferences. From this, different categories were identified:
If you choose to eat goat cheese
According to the study on what cheese you eat, those who choose to consume goat cheese tend to be organized and quite responsible individuals who prioritize quality over quantity.
If you choose Gouda cheese
Gouda cheese is usually the favorite of people who tend to be demanding with themselves and in most areas of their lives. They are individuals open to new experiences and nonconformists.
If you choose Brie cheese
Brie cheese is considered typical of independent people who are used to doing things on their own, but that doesn’t mean they can’t ask for help or work in a team—they are disciplined. As a curious fact, they tend to be coffee lovers and often experience stress. When they eat cheese, it’s usually on special occasions.
If you choose Cheddar cheese
According to the study, Cheddar cheese is preferred by individuals with an adventurous spirit and a dreamy nature, while still cherishing the familiar.
If you choose Blue cheese
Choosing this cheese is often associated with people whose personality is complex, who have a strong character, and who possess high self-esteem.

If your choice is Manchego cheese
As true Manchegos, we took the liberty of adding one last category after asking several Castilian-Manchegan locals about their habits. It could be concluded that those who choose Manchego cheese are authentic individuals who favor quality over quantity. They are honest people, with strong character and a strong sense of family. They usually work very well in teams and have an entrepreneurial spirit.
We all have a favorite cheese—what’s yours? Don’t forget it’s just a fun guide, and no matter how many studies are done, no one can truly “label” us 😉
And what kind of cheese do you eat? In reality, it doesn’t really matter which cheese you choose, and in today’s society—where all kinds of foods are readily available—we all likely enjoy a wide variety of cheeses depending on our diet, special occasions, and personal tastes.
In our case, we recommend our range of Manchego cheeses and artisan sheep cheeses, offering a wide variety that includes soft, semi-aged, aged, reserve, in olive oil, with truffle, with rosemary, cream cheese, and cheese in lard.
Without a doubt, La Mancha is a major producer of high-quality cheeses with an excellent variety, offering a cheese for every recipe, occasion, and taste.
